UTILITY 40 | TRIBUTE COLLECTION | MR1

Sale price£599.00

Mountain Rescue teams go out in the worst conditions the UK can throw at them. Quietly, without fuss, and without any expectation of thanks. This watch is a nod to that spirit.

Ontic’s founder, John, is a former Mountain Rescue volunteer. He learned the hard way that when the rain is sideways and the light is fading, your kit cannot be decorative. It has to work.

So the MR1 is built the same way. TiX hardened titanium. Solar powered Swiss movement. High contrast dial. 300 metre water resistance. Everything on it earns its place, including the bright orange and yellow accents which are inspired by the livery of UK Mountain Rescue vehicles.

Ontic will donate £40 from the sale of each watch to be shared by Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and Scottish Mountain Rescue. It is a small contribution to the teams who step into bad weather on purpose and bring people home.

TECHNOLOGY

SWISS SOLAR QUARTZ

At the heart of the UTILITY 40 is the Swiss-made Ronda Solartech 215. It’s a solar-powered quartz movement built for accuracy, longevity, and sheer stubborn reliability.

Quartz is the logical choice for a proper tool watch. It keeps time to within seconds a month, shrugs off shocks, and never needs winding. When you’re relying on your kit, precision and simplicity matter more than ritual.

Solar power takes that reliability even further. Light from almost any source charges a lithium cell beneath the dial, giving up to eight months of run time in complete darkness. No batteries to change, no waste, no fuss. Just a watch that quietly minds its own business.

TECHNOLOGY

TiX TITANIUM

The case of the UTILITY 40 is made from TiX. That’s the name we give to our specification of hardened titanium.

Starting with Grade 2 titanium, we add a diamond-like carbon surface that forms a dense outer layer roughly four times harder than steel, giving the case outstanding scratch resistance without adding weight. It’s not paint, it’s not plating, and it won’t wear off.

The result is a hypoallergenic and corrosion-proof material that’s 4x harder than steel yet 40% lighter.

That’s what makes the UTILITY 40 lighter than it looks, tougher than it needs to be, and calmly unimpressed by whatever you do to it.

TECHNOLOGY

DESIGNED, ASSEMBLED & TESTED IN THE UK

Every Ontic starts life on a British workbench. Designed, assembled and tested here by people who care about doing it right. It’s slower, pricier and occasionally involves swearing, but it guarantees each watch leaves the bench properly built and properly tested.

Each watch is tested for water resistance, accuracy, and finish before it leaves. No conveyor belts, no jazzy robots, just patient watchmakers who want to do it right.

Once it’s on your wrist, the same team who built it will support it for life.

British-built. World-ready. And proudly allergic to shortcuts.
