TiX TITANIUM

TiX TITANIUM

We build watches to be used, not babied. That’s why every Ontic watch (both case and bracelet) is made from TiX: the name we give to our specification of hardened titanium.

Why Titanium?
Titanium is the ideal material for a watch that actually gets worn. It’s about 40% lighter than steel, doesn’t rust, and laughs in the face of corrosion. It’s also completely hypoallergenic, so the only thing likely to irritate you is someone asking what “TiX” stands for. It’s the reason a 300-metre-rated Ontic still wears comfortably all day.

What is TiX?
The process starts with grade 2 titanium, which is then hardened using a diamond-like carbon (DLC) process to around 1200HV on the Vickers scale.

The DLC process creates a dense, extremely tough outer layer that dramatically improves scratch resistance without adding weight.  In fact, it's roughly four times harder than the 316L steel used in most watches.

It’s not paint, it’s not plating, and it won’t wear off. You can still scratch it, but you have to try pretty hard.

The Result
A case that’s lighter than it looks and tougher than it needs to be. Built for people who expect their gear to keep up, and don’t apologise to doorframes.
