INTRODUCING THE UTILITY 40
“Ontic hit it out of the park with the Utility 40: robust, singular, well-priced, and perfectly matching its founder's vision for the perfect set-and-forget tool watch”

Engineered to Earn Its Place

Titanium, upgraded
TiX is our specification of hardened titanium. It's light, corrosion proof, and surfaced with a diamond-like carbon layer that makes it four times harder than steel. It wears easy, looks the part, and doesn't flinch at door frames.

Powered by Light
The heart of the UTILITY 40 is a Swiss solar-quartz movement. It charges from any light, runs for months in the dark, and keeps time to within seconds a month. No winding, no charging, no babysitting. It just gets on it.

Legibility first
High-contrast dials, fully lumed hands, and bold ceramic indices make the time easy to read at a glance. As light levels fall, Swiss Super-LumiNova provides a steady glow so the dial remains visible.

British Built, World Ready
Every Ontic is designed, assembled, and tested in Britain by people who care. It costs a bit more than doing it overseas, but it means we know it's properly made, properly checked, and built for the long haul.

For those who go out when others stay in
Mountain Rescue teams go out in the worst conditions the UK can throw at them. Quietly, without fuss, and without any expectation of thanks. This watch is a nod to that spirit.
Ontic’s founder, John, is a former Mountain Rescue volunteer. He learned the hard way that when the rain is sideways and the light is fading, your kit cannot be decorative. It has to work.
So the MR1 is built the same way. TiX titanium (hardened to 1200HV). Swiss Solar movement. High contrast dial. 300 metre water resistance. Everything on it earns its place, including the bright orange and yellow accents which are inspired by the livery of UK Mountain Rescue vehicles.
£40 from each watch supports Mountain Rescue England and Wales and Scottish Mountain Rescue. It's a small contribution to the teams who step into bad weather on purpose and bring people home.
If you’re adding a watch to your collection that stands for something as well as it works, make it this one.
